FSU football lands a much-needed playmaker in its 2021 recruiting class.

The FSU football staff is looking to finish out its 2021 recruiting class on a high note and momentum seems to be forming on the recruiting trails.

Three-star defensive end George Wilson announced his de-commitment from South Carolina on November 25.

The Virginia product had been committed since July 2020, and was offered by the FSU staff a day after his de-commitment.

It didnโ€™t take long for the Noles to take advantage of the option to land the in-state blue-chip recruit. Wilson announced via his Instagram account Wednesday morning and posted this on his Twitter:

Wilson is listed as a linebacker at 6โ€™5โ€ณ 215 pounds and joins FSU signee Patrick Payton as a player with trendmous upside off the edge as a pass rusher. Wilson checks in with a high three-star composite ranking.

Heโ€™s considered the No. 365 player nationally, No. 24 weakside defensive end, and No. 6 player in Virginia.

Thoughts

It has been a while since Nole fans have been able to cheer about landing potential playmakers coming off the edge.

This battle came down to Florida State and Auburn, and Gus Malzahn getting fired could have been the final thing to confirm Wilson coming to the good guys.

Wilson is the 16th commitment for the 2021 recruiting cycle, and the Noles likely have about 9 spots remaining to fill. The majority of those spots will go to either JUCO or transfer portal players.

His commitment moves the Noles up to No. 31 nationally, with several blue-chip targets left on their board.

It looks like the coaching staff is doing a great job of getting current commits to sign early, and thatโ€™ll be huge as they look to close strong between then and National Signing Day in early February.
