Purdy and Rodemaker will still be classified as a freshman in 2021 because the 2020 season does not count towards eligibility.
However, whoever signs in the 2022 class will knowingly do so expecting to redshirt their freshman season. In a perfect world, that means they’ll be ready to take the reigns from Purdy/Rodemaker or compete for the job.
The Noles have been rumored to be in a good spot for one of the better 2022 pro-style QB’s. If that holds, the quarterback room will work out just fine.
However, the quarterback position isn’t an area the coaching staff can afford to miss out on moving forward.
It’s one of the biggest reasons Clemson has surpassed FSU, along with FSU implementing their self-inflicted wounds.
They’ve had an elite quarterback play since 2015 when Deshaun Watson became the full-time starter, and haven’t looked back since.
Elite quarterback play can help cover up some deficiencies on the roster while attracting offensive weapons at the skill positions.
