FSU football: Demorie Tate grades as a ‘can’t miss’ prospect
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football didn’t sign a lot of defensive backs in its 2020 recruiting class. However, one of them is considered an elite prospect.
FSU football has had several true freshman defensive backs to play early over the past decade.
We’ve seen great players like Lamarcus Joyner, Jalen Ramsey, and Derwin James star in the garnett and gold before going on to careers in the NFL.
The Noles signed a player in the 2020 recruiting cycle that could be the next to fit that mold in true freshman Demorie Tate.
Tate came to FSU football ranked as the No. 34 player overall and No. 4 cornerback in the nation. He was the only top 100 player signed in the class and is expected to compete for playing time at the boundary cornerback position this season.
It looks like another evaluation service has found Tate’s ability to be elite and believes he’ll make a big impact for the Noles.

Thoughts
Most recruiting services had Tate listed as a five-star for most of the recruiting cycle before his composite average dropped to a four-star late in the process. He possesses excellent length at 6’1″ and near 190 pounds has enough weight to be physical with opposing wide receivers.
Tate doesn’t need elite speed with the length he has, but he consistently ran sub-11 second 100 meters when he ran track in high school. He also can change direction quickly while also having long strides to eat up ground vertically if he has to turn and go.
It’s not far-fetched to think Tate could become named a true freshman All-American. Jaiden Lars-Woodbey was named an ESPN All-American as a true freshman.
He’s composite ranking coming out of high school was nearly identical to Tate’s(ranked No. 35 overall and No. 4 safety).
