Schedule

The FSU football schedule sets up nicely for the Noles as they should be solid favorites in several games. If we look at SP+ projections, the Noles are projected to be better (No. 26) than they were last year, and considerably better than some of their opponents:

  • (N)West Virginia-No. 64
  • (H)Samford-FCS
  • @ Boise State-No. 38
  • @ NC State-No. 62
  • (H) Clemson-No. 3
  • (H) Wake Forest-No. 81
  • (A) Louisville-No. 41
  • (H) Pittsburgh-No. 42
  • (A) Miami-No. 23
  • (H) Boston College-No. 71
  • (A) Syracuse-No. 95
  • (H) Florida-No. 7

Of course, SP+ stats are not the be all end all of who will win a football game but they do give a nice snapshot at what each program is bringing to the table using advanced metrics. FSU should only be clear underdogs against Clemson and Florida in 2020. There are toss-up games like Boise State, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Miami.

As Patterson noted, FSU should have beaten Boise State last year and did beat Louisville. Those wins don’t mean anything in 2020, but it’s still worth noting when coaching was a huge concern in 2019.
