FSU football coaches were looking for some recruiting momentum in its 2021 recruiting class. A blue-chip commitment might help with that.

FSU football recruiting had fallen to No. 49 in the 247 Composite Recruiting Rankings with five commitments and an average rating of 89.13 per player.

It’s not unchartered territory as they were ranked in the mid-60s’ at one point in late 2017 after Jimbo Fisher left and Willie Taggart took over.

However, it’s been an uncomfortable feeling for Nole fans as Mike Norvell has tried to find his footing in a Power Five conference while battling a new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The staff has been working hard, trying to develop relationships virtually and building on the ones with players that had a chance to visit before spring activities were canceled.

The latter is something they were doing a good job of until things were shutdown.

Their hard work has paid off and blue-chip defensive back Hunter Washington announced his commitment to the Noles via his Twitter account:

Washington is considered the No. 236 ranked player nationally and No. 16 ranked cornerback while being considered the No. 37 ranked player in Texas.

He checks in at 5’11” and 178 pounds with 29 offers from the likes of FSU, Ohio State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Penn State, Missouri, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, USC, Virginia Tech, and others.

Thoughts

Washington was one of four blue-chip players we highlighted a few days ago who could commit to the Noles.

The commitment is the first defensive back for the 2021 class and improves FSU’s ranking to No. 39 in the nation with six commitments.

Their blue-chip ratio is now 50 percent, and this could be just what the Noles needed to get momentum in their 2021 recruiting cycle as it’s been almost a month to the day since their last commitment in the class with Jake Slaughter.
