FSU football has officially hired its new offensive coordinator in Kendal Briles after days of speculation and rumors.

FSU football needed a serious upgrade at the offensive coordinator position after 2018’s abomination of a season.

The departure of Walt Bell turned out to be a blessing in disguise as he headed up north to be the head coach at UMass.

The Noles hired the best available offensive coordinator in Houston’s former offensive coordinator Kendal Briles. FSU officially announced the hire Sunday afternoon.

The hire does come with some baggage, but so far its been fairly well received by national writers.

FSU football fans seems to be thrilled with the move mostly with rivals trying to troll but failing miserably. Check out a few of their reactions below:

Twitter Reaction

A lame attempt to troll with Briles having to coach Houston’s bowl game with a third string true freshman QB.

No question.

Briles spoke with Seminoles.com about taking the FSU offensive coordinator position:

"“I am incredibly humbled by this opportunity and appreciate Coach Taggart’s trust in me,” Briles said. “I also appreciate him supporting my desire to finish this season at my alma mater by coaching in our bowl game yesterday. We both understand what this offense should be, and I have complete confidence in our ability to meet the goals he has for us. Sarah and I are excited to be part of Florida State and are looking forward to integrating ourselves within the Tallahassee and FSU communities.”"

Thoughts

No question the move was a gamble for Willie Taggart, but it’s a move he felt he had to take. There’s literally no room for error when it comes to the FSU offense in 2019.

I’m not saying they need to average 40 ppg game next season, but they must show progression so that momentum of heading in the right direction can be sold on the recruiting trails.

Taggart had to make a hire that he believed would help foster significant improvement in the coming year. Who better that someone who runs the offense you borrowed many of your concepts to create the Gulf Coast Offense?

It’ll be interesting to see what improvements will take place in the coming year. There are still many questions on the offensive side of the ball.

Who’ll be the QB and will the offensive line be able to show any type of improvements over last year?

Briles has a track record of huge improvements in offenses in just single seasons at the helm and FSU has nowhere to go but up next year.

Stay tuned FSU football fans as this could be the hire that helps FSU get back to respectability and help land those elite recruiting classes needed to challenge for ACC and national titles again.
