FSU Football: Quarterback Thoughts Post-Spring Game
By Kelvin Hunt
Deondre Francois
Man. The kid has a cannon. He also had a very good showing in the spring game, but did make some young quarterback mistakes. He threw two interceptions and fumbled the ball once(although Fisher over ruled the fumble).
All of the turnovers are correctable though. Those throws that were intercepted were the right throws, just thrown too short or not high enough.
In Fisher’s offense, knowing where you’re supposed to go with the ball and throwing players open is the biggest thing. Francois seemed to have a good grasp of that concept, and also showed some chemistry with receiver Auden Tate and tight end Ryan Izzo.
The X factor for Francois? His ability to use his legs and scramble. That’s something I didn’t anticipate prior to the spring game, but it’s evident that his legs could be a viable factor. Much like a young EJ Manuel before refused to use his legs later in his FSU career.
Henry didn’t show much as far as ability to scramble, and probably shouldn’t be running since he’s so frail at the moment. Maguire isn’t using his legs to go anywhere as he’s a pocket passer.
If Francois can limit the mistakes, his ability to run could give him the edge come fall.
