FSU baseball took another loss to UF on Tuesday. The loss was the second of the season and fourth straight against the Gators.

It was a different setting for FSU baseball against Florida on Tuesday, but the same result. Entering Tuesday’s game FSU had lost three straight games to Florida, all three in Gainesville. The rivals met in the annual Sunshine Showdown at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on Tuesday and UF extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-1 victory. The loss brought FSU’s record to 18-8 so far on the season.

It wasn’t exactly the same result as the previous three meetings, as FSU actually scored a run. In the previous three games FSU failed to get on the board. In fact, the scoreless stretch for FSU against Florida was up to 36 innings before FSU finally got a run across the plate in the 6th inning on Tuesday.

UF did all of their damage in the first inning on Sunday. That damage came in the form of a J.J Schwarz RBI single and a Mike Rivera three run home run. The homer was Rivera’s first of 2017.

More from FSU Baseball

Andrew Karp made the start for FSU baseball and after that shaky first inning he settled in nicely. Karp’s final line read 5 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 5 K, 2 BB. The loss dropped Karp to 0-2 on the season with both losses coming against the Gators.

FSU got some good work out of their bullpen with four scoreless innings. Will Zirzow replaced Karp and went two innings allowing one hit and no runs with one strike out. Zirzow was replaced by Chase Haney who had a line of 1 IP, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB. Finally, Drew Carlton came in to pitch the top of the ninth and allowed no base runners while picking up two strike outs.

As they always seem to do against the Gators, FSU struggled at the plate on Tuesday. FSU had just five hits on the night. Quincy Nieporte had the only extra base-hit with a double as well as the only scored run. And Rhett Aplin was 1-4 with the lone RBI. J.C. Flowers was the only Nole with multiple base hits as he was 2-4 on the night.

Simply put, Florida has absolutely dominated Florida State in baseball lately. Fans are frustrated, and rightfully so. The players and coaches are surely frustrated with recent results against the Gators as well. However, the team must find a way to put it behind them as they have a huge home series with number eight North Carolina in just a few short days. Be on the look out for our series preview on Friday.
