Why Ousmane Kromah should be one of the leaders in FSU football's offense in 2026

This could be a special 2026 campaign for Ousmane Kromah.

Florida State football is looking for a new identity as head coach Mike Norvell tries to return to his 2022 and 2023 form that the fan base enjoyed with his success. The reality of it all is that winning cures everything.

We look at arch-rival Miami, which has been irrelevant for the past twenty years. Their program made the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana. The turnaround can happen quickly, and the fan base hopes that is the case for the Seminoles in 2026.

The offense was seen as inconsistent last year, and a big reason why the Seminoles couldn't put points on the scoreboard. Former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn unexpectedly retired this offseason, leaving head coach Mike Norvell with play-calling responsibilities. This isn't new for Norvell, as he has done this for the majority of his coaching career, but the fan base is hesitant because of the disaster of 2024.

One of the biggest issues in 2025 was that Florida State played "musical chairs" with its running back group. It seemed like every time a playmaker got it going, they would be taken out of the game. It is a shame because usually you ride with the hot hand, especially for a squad that was desperate for wins.

Running back Ousmane Kromah could be exactly what the Seminoles need for their offense during the 2026 season

We recently wrote an article highlighting a rare positive outlook from On3's JD PicKell about the Florida State Seminoles. This has been known as someone who has been harsh towards the Seminoles. PicKell mentioned that one of the players that he was excited about was sophomore running back Ousmane Kromah.

The expectations for him have been sky-high ever since Florida State grabbed him in the 2025 recruiting cycle away from the likes of Georgia and Auburn. The Seminoles knew that they wanted the former four-star prospect in their running back rotation and were able to win out in his recruitment in the end.

The Georgia native recorded 72 carries for 408 yards on the ground, as well as nine receptions for 147 yards and one touchdown through the air. The fact that Kromah only had one total touchdown was concerning, and it seemed like the coaching staff never wanted to use him.

The fan base wondered why he never got reps, having only two contests where he recorded double-digit carries. There were veterans that seem to get some burn last year that didn't make much sense, and it cost Kromah the ability to see the field.

The rotation might only be trickier this season, as Florida State added Texas's Tre Wisner via the transfer portal, and they still have veteran Sam Singleton Jr. They also acquired four-star prospect Amari Thomas in their 2026 recruiting class.

The Year 2 jump should be noticeable for Kromah. There are people out there who aren't fans of veteran quarterback Ashton Daniels, and the passing game could take a dip even though superstar wide receiver Duce Robinson returned for his senior season. All of the worries could be resolved if the Seminoles are able to effectively run the football with Kromah and take the pressure off the passing attack.
