Florida State's arch-rival Miami Hurricanes made the College Football Playoffs and took on the Texas A&M Aggies on the road. This was something that I didn't expect, since the Hurricanes haven't ever won an ACC Championship.
Head coach Mario Cristobal is known for choking away contests when his game-management coaching decisions are horrendous. However, it looked to be a slug fest in College Station as the weather made it difficult to throw the football.
They even had a field goal kicking competition on College Gameday and you could tell immediately that the wind would be a huge factor in the outcome. The Hurricanes and Aggies went a combined 2/6 on field goal attempts.
Unfortunately, the Miami Hurricanes won the road game by a score of 10-3 against Texas A&M. The Aggies' quarterback Marcel Reed had an ultimate choke job, where he threw the game-sealing interception to put a stamp on the contest.
The accuracy was impacted by the wind, with Reed's two interceptions. This was perfect with how head football coach Mario Cristobal wanted to manage the game. He likes to establish the ground game, and they did just that with 17 carries for 172 yards from running back Mark Fletcher Jr.
It was disappointing to see from the Aggies' defense because quarterback Carson Beck was a non-factor throwing the football. The only touchdown that Beck had all game was a jet sweep from wide receiver Malachi Toney.
The Hurricanes have made it to the next round of the College Football Playoffs, while the Seminoles are struggle to piece together consistency. Some of the fan base is worried about the future of the program, where Miami made it to the College Football Playoff and won a game on the road against Texas A&M, and then the Florida Gators brought in a new head football coach.
This will have to be a big offseason for Florida State because they cannot afford to fall behind their rivals.
