Turnover on FSU's baseball roster might force diehard fans to do research in 2027

College sports are crazier than ever with so much turnover.

Florida State baseball will have several guys selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. Wes Mendes, Bryson Moore, Myles Bailey, John Abraham, Chris Knier, Brayden Dowd, Trey Beard, and others.

Several players have already announced intentions to enter the transfer portal. The first few were non-contributors in 2026 and probably were not going to be contributors in 2027. However, players like Hunter Carns and Gabe Fraser were starters in 2026 and were likely going to be counted on as starters in 2027. More players could enter the portal over the next few days, but I provided three names that Florida State should try to retain here.

If FSU can't keep those guys, the most die-hard Florida State baseball fans will likely have to do research to learn about the roster in 2027.

Link Jarrett will have to replace his entire weekend starting rotation, and his top three bullpen arms. He'll have to replace his starting first baseman, shortstop, catcher, and designated hitter.

Link Jarrett and the coaching staff have a lot of questions to answer and roster needs to fill.

He needs a better option at second base and better hope that Cal Fisher can regain the form he had before this past season if he doesn't declare for the draft. Brody DeLamielleure could enter the MLB Draft, so the only returning outfield could be John Stuetzer.

That's nearly all of the production from the mound and in the field. Granted, the majority of that pitching production was obtained from the transfer portal anyways. The scary part about the transfer portal is Link Jarrett and the staff didn't necessarily crush it in the portal last year. They got some solid pieces, especially on the mound. However, the offensive takes were not close to what they've been in the past.

Was last year's transfer portal class an anomaly, or was it a trend in the wrong direction on the offensive side. The offense has regressed each year since Link Jarrett became the head coach.

If Florida State signs a ton of JUCO guys and mostly players from the mid-major level? That's probably a red flag for the future of Florida State baseball. We'll have to see how it shakes out, but either way, it'll be nearly a brand new team without much player name recognition amongst the fans.

A lot will happen between now and then and we have no idea how good the team will be. College sports just isn't what it used to be.
