Florida State is the home of many great athletes, such as Charlie Ward, Jameis Winston, Deion Sanders, Lee Corso, Derrick Brooks, Brooks Koepka, Scottie Barnes, and many more.

The Seminoles have had a long line of polarizing athletes that make the garnet and gold special. The men's football and basketball programs have been down over the past couple of years, but the baseball, softball, women's basketball, tennis, soccer, golf, and even lacrosse (first year) have maximized their efforts.

Football is the money-maker and fans understand that, but Florida State Director of Athletics Michael Alford doesn't want its sporting programs to fall to rock bottom at the expense of football.

Trey Jones is doing work for the Florida State golf program by securing the commitment of Charlie Woods

The golf program has been a solid product under the guidance of head coach Trey Jones. They finished in ninth place at the 2025 NCAA Championship Finals (per Seminoles.com).

Florida State picked up a commitment from a top-25-ranked amateur golfer in Charlie Woods. The last name might sound familiar because he is the son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods.

Woods joined three other Class of 2027 commitments that the Seminoles have in their recruiting class with Miles Russell (ranked No. 1 in the American Junior Golf Association's Rolex Rankings), Edwin Askerfors (top-ranked Swedish junior), and Kaden Puranik (Florida native who is a proven winner).

This is a massive get for the Seminoles' golf program, as Trey Jones looks to win a national championship and solidify Florida State's status as a sustainable powerhouse for years to come.

With Charlie Woods committed to Florida State, this could allow Tiger Woods to attend his tournaments, which the Seminoles host. This could be a great PR move for Florida State in getting other talented prospects to join him on the team.
