Coming out of last week’s official visits, Florida State landed three blue-chip commits: Jernard Albright, Jayden Miles, and Sean Green. Now, the Seminoles also lost four-star safety Mekhi Williams, who flipped to Wisconsin, and three-star linebacker Gregory Batson, who reopened his recruitment.
Still, it was largely a positive week for FSU, and Mike Norvell needs to build on that with another crop of recruits heading to Tallahassee this weekend. It’ll be a busy one, and if it leads to any commitment for the Noles, there’s a good chance it's from one of these three prospects.
1. Sam LeJeune, DL, 4-star, Poplarville, Mississippi
With Norvell’s tenure teetering–to put it mildly–Florida State doesn’t have much of a path to blue-chip talent. However, four-star defensive tackle Sam LeJeune has kept the Seminoles at the forefront of his recruitment for much of the process. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Mississippi product is ranked No. 119 by 247Sports Composite, so he would become the top-ranked player in Norvell’s 2027 class if he can land him.
As recently as April, LeJeune told Rivals, “Florida State is definitely leading.” Now, Norvell hasn’t protected many leads in recent years, on the recruiting trail or the field, so it’s no guarantee, but FSU appears to be in good standing. Defensive tackles coach Terrance Knighton is heading up this recruitment, and already in the 2027 class, the second-year position coach has landed a defensive tackle recruit from Mississippi, three-star Eric Vaulx Jr.
2. DaJohn Yarborough, IOL, 4-star, Chandler, Arizona
The massive 6-foot-5, 340-pound interior offensive lineman from Arizona has set his commitment date for June 27, so there is still time for him to be swayed after this weekend, including on a visit to Washington set for next Friday. Still, he has become a priority recruit for the Seminoles and has worked their way into a nation-spanning top-five with Cal, Mississippi State, Rutgers, and Washington.
Yaborough lauded the environment in Tallahassee, coming out of his unofficial visit, so an OV this weekend could be the thing Norvell and his staff need to put this one over the top. If Norvell is going to turn around the program, he’ll need a more sustainable homegrown approach to the trenches, so this is one to monitor.
3. Elijah Cox, EDGE, 3-star, Atlanta, Georgia
Mississippi, Clemson, and Georgia Tech all play a major role in Elijah Cox’s recruitment, and Florida State appears to be firmly in that mix. He was at Junior Day in January after receiving an offer from the Seminoles, and returned in April for an unofficial visit.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive lineman has the versatility to move up and down the line, and that’s been reflected in his recruitment. Though the Seminoles view him as an EDGE, both defensive ends coach Nick Williams and defensive tackles coach Terrance Knighton have factored into his recruitment. Mississippi looks to be the favorite for Cox, ranked No. 516 in the country by 247Sports Composite, but another trip to Tallahassee could go a long way towards changing that.
