Will true freshman WR Camdon Frier be a factor for the Noles in 2024?
Florida State secured four commitments in its 2024 recruiting class at the wide receiver position with Camdon Frier, BJ Gibson, Lawayne McCoy, and Elijah Moore. Moore is the only recruit who has not enrolled yet (will be enrolling this summer).
Head football coach Mike Norvell has raved over Frier, who has progressively gotten better as he has navigated through spring practice. Florida State is having to replace the likes of Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman, who both declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Both Wilson and Coleman were the Seminoles' top two pass catchers from the 2023 season. While it might be difficult to ask Frier to contribute right away as a true freshman, he is starting to get acclimated to the collegiate game.
The former four-star prospect had a productive senior season at Columbia High School last year where he caught 27 passes for 538 yards and five touchdowns.
Florida State football's official Twitter (X) account posted a 75-yard touchdown reception by Frier when they conducted their spring scrimmage over the weekend.
The Frier family legacy is no stranger to being in the spotlight at Florida State as his father (Matt Frier) played wide receiver with the Seminoles from 1989 to 1993. According to his statistics from nolefan.org, his father recorded 95 receptions for 1,359 yards and seven touchdowns during his four-year playing career with Florida State.
Back to the younger Frier, the Seminoles have a talented group of pass catchers in their rotation such as JaKhi Douglas, Kentron Poitier, Hykeem Williams, Vandrevius Jacobs, Destyn Hill, Darion Williamson, Deuce Spann, Malik Benson, and Jalen Brown (among others).
That are several mouths to feed in the offense. However, I still believe that Frier could be a viable slot option especially if they needed a change of pace. I am not saying that the true freshman could be a 500-yard contributor. However, I see him getting 150 yards if everything goes well.
