FSU WR Johnny Wilson could be a darkhorse contributor in the NFL
Florida State's offense had a successful 2023 season when it came to getting the football in their top two playmakers' hands with Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman.
Both of the wide receiver prospects participated in the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. The coaching staff certainly will miss both of the contributors for next season since they combined to record 91 receptions for 1,275 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Coleman was originally projected to go in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, with his 4.62 40-yard dash, it might be up in the air with if he slides into the second round. As it relates to Wilson, he was classified as the wildcard given his injury history and inconsistencies.
The former Arizona State wide receiver transfer was an opposing defensive back's worst nightmare given his 6'7" frame. However, Wilson struggled with dropping easier opportunities as well as concussion issues that hindered him as the season progressed.
Overall, it was quite surprising to see him run a 4.52 40-yard dash at the combine. It isn't to say that Wilson is "slow". That is just a respectable time for a player of his size.
The NFL mock drafts virtually have him being selected all over the place. This comes with the territory of being so unknown to what his full potential could be. However, the coaching staff at Florida State maximized Wilson's skill set and gave him an opportunity to be successful even when he was not the most productive piece with the Sun Devils.
Wilson has a redemption story to be written. While he and all of his teammates did not get the opportunity to cap their 2023 season with a chance to compete for a national championship, I am extremely happy that these young men to be able to obtain life-changing money for their futures.
