FSU football: QB transfer DJ Uiagalelei commits to Florida State
FSU football needed some good news after the 63-3 defeat to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Saturday afternoon to create positive momentum heading into the offseason.
We at ChopChat have discussed the quarterback transfer options on numerous occasions. However, it was time for something to finally give. Well, on Monday afternoon, the dominos started to fall as Washington State's Cameron Ward elected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft instead of heading to the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes, which was a massive victory for the Seminoles.
Then the Hurricanes elected to go after Arkansas's KJ Jefferson, who then elected to commit to UCF. Now the Florida Gators will have the opportunity to lose to Jefferson yet again in 2024 after being upset by the Razorbacks last season.
Just when you thought that it could not get any better for the Seminoles, Oregon State quarterback transfer DJ Uiagalelei announced that he would be committing to Florida State on Monday afternoon.
This is a perfect way to kick off the New Year. As I alluded to in a previous article, Seminole fans got their wish granted when the coaching staff was able to acquire a talented veteran who has a strong arm with the ability to showcase his legs at times if needed.
Uiagalelei completed 180 of his 315 passes for 2,638 yards with 21 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. He also had 219 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground.
I realize that there is a portion of the fan base that is worried about the signal caller's time with the Clemson Tigers. However, he was still able to complete 229 of his 369 passes for 2,521 yards and 22 touchdowns with only 7 interceptions during his final season with the Tigers in 2022.
With Florida State only having two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for 2024 in Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek, this acquisition makes perfect sense for the Seminoles. Head football coach Mike Norvell should be able to do wonderful things with Uiagalelei commanding the offense.
