FSU DT Darrell Jackson Jr. recognizing assistant coach Odell Haggins
Florida State football had ten players from the 2023 squad selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. That is more than arch-rival Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes. That is the culture that head football coach Mike Norvell has set for this program.
The Seminoles have a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons. Florida State has proved doubters wrong after starting the Norvell tenure with an 8-13 record in his first two years.
The defensive line had a productive day where defensive end Jared Verse and defensive tackle Braden Fiske were drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the first two rounds. They also had defensive tackle Fabien Lovett Sr. picked up as an undrafted free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins is one of the longest-tenured assistant coaches on the coaching staff. He has been someone that the Seminoles can rely on in terms of developing talent to the professional ranks.
Current defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. posted on social media about Haggins.
It could be viewed as a simple tweet, but it relays the fact that Haggins is a pivotal piece in the university. With Lovett Sr. and Fiske being drafted, players such as Joshua Farmer and Darrell Jackson Jr. are prepared to have huge statistical campaigns on the defensive side of the football.
It could be a big year for Jackson Jr. as he was unfairly limited by the NCAA during the 2023 season. His waiver request to play for the Seminoles was denied and he had to wait until the Orange Bowl versus Georgia to showcase his talent.
Nonetheless, Jackson Jr. continued to put his head down and work relentlessly. Head football coach Mike Norvell preaches about responses to handling adversity. He is now looking to be the next NFL defensive lineman draft pick for the Seminoles.
