FSU football defensive end Jared Verse was the No. 19 player selected in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He's the third FSU defensive end selected in the first round since 2019, joining Brian Burns (No. 16 overall in 2019) and Jermaine Johnson (No. 26 overall in 2022). Verse was the top defensive end prospect on NFL.com, with a 6.73 grade (year one starter. He was a two-time All-American and two-time All-ACC selection at Florida State after transferring from FCS Albany before the 2022 season. As a junior (12 games), he finished with 48 tackles, 17.5 tackles for a loss, and nine sacks. As a senior (13 games), he finished with 41 tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss, and nine sacks. Some rival fans tried to point out his production dropped from his junior to senior season but failed to realize that FSU used a rotation at the defensive end position. Verse also commanded double teams and chip blocks from tight ends, which freed up others like Braden Fiske, Joshua Farmer, and Patrick Payton to make plays. Verse was an integral part in replacing former first-round selection Jermaine Johnson after the 2021 season.

What Jared Verse Brings To A Team

Jared Verse has an excellent combination of explosive get-off-the-line of scrimmage and the ability to transfer his speed into power. He can rush the passer and is strong enough to set the edge in the run game. He has a relentless motor and great instincts. Verse is a competitor in every facet and is willing to tell you about it with his trash talk. He played with his hand in the dirt at FSU, but could probably play standing up and able to play in several defensive schemes. I like Verse to play in the NFL for a long time and make a lot of money representing the Noles.
