FSU 2026 QB commit Brady Smigiel focused on building a great recruiting class
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has been hot on the recruiting trail over the past week. They've added two blue-chip commitments in its 2025 recruiting class and added one of the top blue-chip quarterbacks in its 2026 class, Brady Smigiel. Quarterback recruiting works differently than most other positions. Colleges generally like to have "their guy" committed well before they enter their senior season. It's why you saw 2024 signee Luke Kromenhoek commit so early, and 2025 commit Tramell Jones committed well over a year before his senior season starts this fall. Brady Smigiel gave an interview recently after committing to the Noles. He broke down the process, why he picked FSU, and what he plans to do in the future below.
The two biggest things that stand out were how Smigiel spoke about Mike Norvell and FSU QB coach Tony Tokarz. They were the biggest reasons he chose FSU, and we probably need to start giving Coach Tokarz his flowers as a recruiter. The other thing that stood out was Smigiel's understanding of his role as the QB commit. It's something I have been critical about with current commit Tramell Jones. Smigiel lives on the West Coast but commented he wanted to get back to Tallahassee as often as possible, or as much as needed to help build the 2026 recruiting class. That's an outstanding development. The last few FSU commits/signees have seen their recruiting ranking skyrocket after committing to the Noles. Kromenhoek and Jones were three-stars who developed into four-star recruits. Smigiel ranks highly and could be the first FSU QB commit to capture that elusive fifth-star composite. If that happens, that should be an easy sale for other high-profile 2026 recruits to join Smigiel in Tallahassee. The staff can start providing Smigiel with lists of high-priority targets in the 2026 class and laying the groundwork for that class well in advance.
