ESTABLISHING A CONSISTENT RUNNING GAME

Florida State is having to replace the likes of running back Trey Benson, who had a combined 1,800+ rushing yards and 23 touchdowns during his two seasons in Tallahassee. Head football coach Mike Norvell always emphasizes the importance of establishing the run to open up the passing game.

The offensive line struggled to maintain push on opposing defensive lines at times in 2023. The running game became inconsistent where they only had success when Benson broke off long runs to generate momentum. The Seminoles averaged 150.2 rushing yards per game last season.

I expect that yards per game average to elevate. Florida State added Alabama's Roydell Williams and Indiana's Jaylin Lucas via the transfer portal. Plus, they acquired two four-star prospects Kameron Davis and Micahi Danzy for the 2024 cycle.

The running back position group is stacked with Lawrance Toafili, Roydell Williams, Jaylin Lucas, Caziah Holmes, Samuel Singleton Jr., Kameron Davis, and Micahi Danzy. It seems like there could be getting multiple backs getting reps.

As Coach Johnson states his motto "We on Fries!". While Trey Benson is a top-tier talent and he will be missed, it will be exciting to see how the coaching staff utilizes the rushing attack to their advantage.
