One FSU player is the highest-ranked in transfer portal at his position, nobody cares

Another prime example of recruiting rankings being a joke that too many people take as the gospel.

FSU football has had several players announce their intentions to enter the transfer portal when it opens. One of those players was linebacker Omar Graham Jr.,and the reaction from FSU fans was indifferent. He was a solid player for FSU over the past couple of years. He has battled injuries, but also has major issues in coverage and doesn’t make a ton of splash plays.

Graham Jr. was a three-star recruit with an 86 grade by 247Sports out of high school. However, as a transfer player, 247Sports gave him a 91 grade (four-star) after four years at FSU, and ranked him as No. 1 linebacker in the transfer portal.

So let me get this straight. Omar Graham wasn’t even a full-time starter at FSU, never made any All-ACC teams, and probably wouldn’t even get drafted if he declared for the NFL right now, but 247 improved his grade to a 91, blue-chip player?

See, this is the nonsense I’m talking about when it comes to these subscription-based recruiting sites. I don’t know him personally, and I’m sure he’s a great guy. As a player, there’s no way he’s the best linebacker in the portal. This is further proof that these sites throw a number on a player when they want. It has very little to do with real talent evaluations.

This post isn’t a shot at Omar Graham Jr. I wish him well wherever he ends up, but it’s more about the scam of recruiting rankings with these recruiting sites. My hope is that FSU fans stop paying attention to how many stars a player has and start thinking for themselves. They should look at a player’s tape and form their own opinions instead of someone who doesn’t know how to evaluate telling them what to think.
