Florida State's transfer portal class has grown as they have quarterback Thomas Castellanos, tight end Markeston Douglas, offensive tackle Gunnar Hansen, defensive end James Williams, defensive end DeAnte McCray, and linebacker Stefon Thompson.
The Seminoles need all of the help that they can get in the portal ranks, as the team had a 2-10 record this past year. Head football coach Mike Norvell knows that roster construction is the method to getting Florida State back to where they want to be.
I believe that building the offensive and defensive trenches is pivotal to having sustainable success. The Seminoles have fallen short on the defensive line, where they were regarded by NFL personnel as one of the best in the country in 2024. However, that notion did not go as advertised with Florida State's struggles.
The offensive line was a position unit that was moving in the right direction under the guidance of former offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins. Fast forward to the 2025 offseason, Atkins has been relieved of his duties, and the Seminoles have hired Herb Hand as the offensive line coach.
Hand has secured former Vanderbilt offensive tackle Gunnar Hansen and potentially former UCF offensive guard Adrian Medley in the portal. However, they are not finished yet, as Florida State is working on getting Ole Miss offensive tackle transfer Micah Pettus.
Pettus is listed at 6'7" and 350 pounds. He started in 11 of Ole Miss's 12 games during the 2024 season at right tackle. The talented offensive lineman visited Florida State's campus on Friday.
The Seminoles need tackles as Darius Washington, Jeremiah Byers, and Robert Scott Jr. graduated and are moving on. Florida State needs to find effective ways to protect quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos.
