Florida State only has five commitments in its 2027 recruiting class. The coaching staff brought many prospects to campus in January as an effort to create lasting relationships. The Seminoles have scheduled many recruits for the summer, and the target board is starting to shape up nicely.
Recruits across the country generally like to commit to a school of their choosing in the summer, where they can focus primarily on their senior seasons. We all know that flips and de-commitments occur, but it seems to be a better choice to have them in the class than at another school.
The best prospect in the Seminoles' 2027 recruiting class is four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams from Ruskin, Florida. He is viewed as a top-150 recruit by 247Sports Composite rankings. However, the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes are heavily recruiting him as well. That isn't the only issue that the Seminoles face as they try to field a top-ten recruiting class.
Quarterback target Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV is someone that Florida State prioritizes
Florida State still doesn't have a quarterback in its 2027 class. This isn't a time to panic, but the position is vital for a team's success. The Seminoles have elected to go to the transfer portal in each of the past three offseasons (DJ Uiagalelei, Thomas Castellanos, and Ashton Daniels/Dean DeNobile).
While we aren't discrediting the chance of redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry starting for the Seminoles in 2026, it seems to be an uphill battle for someone that head coach Mike Norvell views as having "a ton of experience" in redshirt senior Ashton Daniels.
With that said, the Seminoles have their sights set on four-star Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV from Vero Beach, Florida, as a top contender for the position. He visited Florida State's campus in January when former quarterback Jameis Winston was visiting with his younger brother (four-star wide receiver signee Jonah Winston) on his official visit.
The thought process was that the trip went well, connecting with Winston, but ESPN's Eric Lederman views Notre Dame as one of the top contenders in a recent piece, which should worry Seminole fans.
Florida State cannot afford to go empty-handed and needs to find quality talent in the high school recruiting ranks. The Seminoles need to get Monds IV bring the heat when he takes a trip to campus on March 28th and lock down an official visit this summer.
