With his recent hot streak on the recruiting trail, Mike Norvell is currently blazing a path back towards relevance. Commitments from Jernard Albright, Jayden Miles, and Sean Green on consecutive days have vaulted the Seminoles back inside the national top 50, but it doesn’t appear that the positive momentum will be enough to get the program back into the mix for four-star edge-rusher Jabarrius Garror in time for his commitment.
Florida State is technically in the final four for Garror, the No. 12 EDGE in the country by Rivals Industry and a top-100 recruit, and he’s set to visit Tallahassee on Friday, part of a 16-player official visit. However, he may not be making that trip after setting his commitment announcement for the same day.Â

Jabarrius Garror sets commitment date for June 12, the day of FSU OV
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound pass-rusher from Mobile, Ala., is expected to flee the state. However, he’s favored to head west towards Austin, not east toward Tallahassee or Athens. The Rivals Prediction Machine has Garror favored at 90 percent to choose the Longhorns, with three predictions coming in this month for Texas.Â
FSU’s only chance to sway Garror was at his official visit on Friday, which is also expected to include elite QB recruit Israel Abrams, a Miami commit, and three other players ranked inside the Rivals Industry top-200. However, the Seminoles, with limited financial resources, have seemed to pivot away from those costly pursuits to allocate their money for prospects a tier below.Â
Garror could have been a significant difference-maker for the class. While he needs to add significant weight to stick on the edge, particularly as a run defender, his quick get-off would have given him a chance as a rotational pass-rusher for the Seminoles early in his career. And it’s clear Norvell needs immediate impact from the 2027 class, if he’s even around to see the group reach the field next season.
FSU already has a blue-chip edge in place
With Garror likely heading to Texas, Florida State’s priority at edge won’t necessarily be of a similar ilk. Three-star recruits Jaxon Holly and Elijah Cox are the top EDGE recruits heading to campus this weekend for their official visits. Holly is the No. 586 overall recruit, and Cox ranks No. 889 in the class.Â
FSU does, however, have a four-star edge-rusher already in the fold with Anthony Cavallaro, who recently shut down his recruitment after taking an official visit to Tallahassee. With an even larger frame at 6-foot-5, 229 pounds, Cavallaro could be more ready for Year 1 than Garror.
Cavallaro does not have any other official visits scheduled this summer. He made the trip to Tallahassee on May 29 and is ranked No. 379 in the class. While the in-state product isn't ranked as highly as Garror, he's as important, if not more, to the FSU class.
