It's the first official visit week of the "summer" season and, let's be honest, FSU recruiting is pretty down in the dumps right now. Last year, between mid-May and July, Mike Norvell went on quite a heater and while the momentum slowed down as training camp began, the Seminoles grabbed some solid prospects.

Norvell needs a repeat of that this year, and it's probably going to be a lot harder. The opening weekend of officials only have five players scheduled to be on campus, but the FSU Elite Camp is Sunday and there will be a lot of players that could emerge as new targets. The following weeks also promise to be much busier, but there's one particular visitor that sticks out and offers a chance for Norvell to get an early recruiting win — four-star running back Jayden Miles.

Mike Norvell can make a statement with an early commitment

Miles jumped on FSU's radar pretty early. The Seminoles offered him over two years ago, and he's stuck with FSU as one of his favorites despite growing interest from some other top programs.

Miles will also take visits to Ohio State (June 5), LSU (June 12) and Kentucky (June 19). One thing that might work in FSU's favor is that Miles is arguably its primary target at running back (although they have widened the umbrella). The staff sees the 6-foot-1, 200-pound blue-chip from Baton Rouge, Louisiana as a potential program changer. Ohio State, for example, is all-in on five-star recruit David Gabriel Georges and probably sees Miles as a complementary piece or a fallback.

It's not unfathomable to think that Miles could commit on this visit. His relationship with the Seminoles is strong. One would think that LSU would be the toughest competition and the pull to play for the hometown Tigers is strong, but there's been so many changes on that staff with Lane Kiffin that the trust might not be there for Miles.

FSU has to get a recruiting win in Louisiana eventually...right?

The Seminoles focused a lot of recruiting resources into Louisiana early in Norvell's tenure and got very little to show for it. Ja'Khi Douglas was alright but Corey Wren and Destyn Hill were super busts on offense and Byron Turner Jr. never made an impact on defense. It's been a while since the Seminoles have landed a Louisiana recruit, but they keep trying and eventually that effort has to be rewarded.

Miles would not only give Norvell a much-needed win for his personal confidence, but if the staff can land that pledge on top of last week's commitment from quarterback Logan Flaherty, maybe it could turn the tide and give FSU a real boost for the visits in June.

Recruiting offers Norvell a chance to flip the script and convince players that FSU is still a force in college football. There is a good crop of young talent on the roster that has some real potential. Obviously, there have to be better results on the field, but the opportunity for that will come in a few months.
