Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis is still keeping his tabs on Florida State, but more importantly, the rivals of the Seminoles. The Florida Gators have just hired a new head coach, again, and this time they went with Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall. Many fans were not happy with this decision as they had Lane Kiffin within their grasp, but instead lost him to LSU.

Granted, while the hire may or may not work out, at least Florida has a new head coach, while Florida State is still stuck with Mike Norvell.

Anyways, Travis went on his podcast "Travis Take Two" and was asked about the hire at Florida and the former Seminoles quarterback certainly didn't hold back on what he thought of the Gators newest addition.

"I think it's like a backup plan," Travis said. "A side chick."

Basically, Travis is saying that Sumrall was not the guy the Gators wanted. They did have the chance to go and throw a lot of money at Kiffin, but instead, athletic director Scott Stricklin went with the cheaper option of Sumrall.

Florida already tried the experiment of a Group of Five coach when they hired Bill Napier from Louisiana-Lafayette, and look at how that turned out. So, now, they have gone and gotten another Group of Five head coach, who only really started winning The American when UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston left.

Sumrall certainly has been a good coach for the Green Wave and is about to lead his team into the College Football Playoff, but he is getting ready to step into the SEC, which is a whole different beast.
