LINK JARRETT ON THE LOSS
Florida State baseball coach Link Jarrett met with the media after the Seminoles lost heartbreakingly in extra innings to the Oregon State Beavers by a score of 5-4. This is what he had to say about the defeat:
"You have to finish games, and you have to finish pitches. We didn't finish the pitches that we needed to make to end it when we had a chance to end it with a runner on second base and two outs. "Link Jarrett on Oregon State loss
I figured that Coach Jarrett would address the fact that the Seminoles did not finish the execution process. The squad had two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, where they were up by a score of 4-1. Something always happens for Florida State baseball in the postseason.
ESPN GRAPHIC JINX
He had to have been stunned. ESPN put a graphic on the screen late in the contest, which stated that Florida State was 31-0 this season when they led after eight innings. Meanwhile, Oregon State was 0-12, trailing after eight innings.
I am not placing blame on the jinx with the graphic. However, it is an accurate representation of how unlucky the Seminoles have been with not securing a national championship. Misery loves company when it revolves around Florida State baseball.
GAME 2 IN CORVALLIS
Game 2 of the Florida State-Oregon State series will begin tonight at 9:00 PM EST on ESPN2. Two aspects will be in the Seminoles' favor tonight: Their best pitcher, Jaime Arnold, will be starting tonight and they will be the home team so they won't have to worry about bottom of the ninth inning collapses.
I have to make myself laugh with the losses in the postseason at this point. However, I know that Coach Jarrett is a tremendous coach, and this is still a very talented bunch. If the Seminoles ever want to get the national championship "monkey off their back," then this would be the time to do it, to respond after the Game 1 loss.
I hope Game 2 is a better watch for all of us...
