Four-star defensive back Jay Timmons, who was one of the top players in FSU's recruiting class, has flipped his commitment to Ohio State. This comes on the heels of the Pittsburgh area prospect taking an official visit to the Buckeyes last week.
Timmons, the son of former FSU linebacker Lawrence Timmons, committed to FSU over the summer after he was offered during one of the showcase camps. He rose from relative obscurity over the summer to becoming a national prospect by the fall.
This move caps off what's been a roller coaster of a week for FSU recruiting.

FSU recruiting surge stalls with decommitments
Timmons becomes the highest-profile decommitment in the class. The blue-chip prospect was originally committed to Indiana before FSU made its offer and convinced him to flip. It's the third decommitment for the Seminoles in the past 36 hours. Earlier this week, 4-star defensive back Tedarius Hughes backed away from his pledge and plans to sign with Syracuse.
Last night, it was 3-star defensive lineman Tico Crittendon that backed away from his pledge, a major loss for a program that's trying to rebuild depth in the trenches.
The week started great for Mike Norvell and the FSU staff. They received a commitment from 3-star edge rusher Chris Carbin and added pledges from 3-star in-state linebacker Daylen Green and 3-star defensive lineman Franklin Whitley.
FSU's recruiting ranking drops a spot
With all the recent commitments and decommitments added up, 247Sports dropped FSU's ranking down to 14. If that number holds, it would be the second-highest rated class under Norvell.
But the perception that Norvell struggles to recruit top players out of high school, struggles to pull top players away from elite programs, struggles to develop the recruits FSU signs and is too reliant on the transfer portal will not change with this latest development. Timmons and 5-star cornerback Chuck Kennon were the core pieces of one of the best defensive back classes in the country.
Now Timmons, a legacy commit, is gone and one of the things he said coming out of his visit to Columbus was that he loved Ohio State's winning culture. It's another indictment on Norvell and the lack of traction he's made with the top national prospects since arriving at FSU.
