Some FSU football fans got excited when blue-chip quarterback Trever Jackson decided to walk on at FSU in the 2024 recruiting class. The second quarterback in the class along with Luke Kromenhoek.
Jackson was a raw prospect with dual-threat ability. He reminded some folks of a young Jordan Travis with his running ability. However, his passing game needed a lot of work. As bad as the 2024 season was, Jackson only managed to get into one game (Charleston Southern) and had one rushing attempt for two yards.
Kromenhoek entered the transfer portal after the season and FSU got Tommy Castellanos from the portal. Brock Glenn remained and FSU signed four-star dual-threat quarterback Kevin Sperry in the 2025 recruiting cycle. FSU also took another walk-on quarterback this spring, Gavin Markey. Sperry enrolled early and has already turned heads at spring practice.
That was probably the catalyst that got the wheels turning for Trever Jackson to announce he'd enter the transfer portal on Saturday:

I noticed that Mike Norvell and Gus Malzahn were only referring to three quarterbacks when they spoke at press conferences or after practices. Castellanos, Glenn, and Sperry were the only three guys ever mentioned.
Markey won't get there until the summer, and FSU will likely take another quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class. Jackson entering the portal gives him a shot to join a new team this summer. He'll likely have to go to a smaller program, but he could become a player in the right situation.
For whatever reason, FSU fans had hope for Jackson, I guess because he had a blue-chip ranking out of high school. However, if he didn't get an opportunity at all last year, it was likely never going to happen for him at FSU. We wish him the best wherever he ends up.
