FSU FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Florida State football recruiting has done very well this summer in acquiring highly-touted prospects from the 2026 cycle. The Seminoles want to change the notion that everyone thinks they can only grab transfers and have an abundance of young talent in the high school ranks.

Florida State did not have a very productive recruiting weekend as several recruits decided to go elsewhere in their recruiting process. However, it should not discredit the amazing class that the coaching staff has constructed thus far.

I already wrote earlier about the cornerback commit Chauncey Kennon receiving his five-star ranking from the updated On3 rankings. This was a shock since many within the fan base think that the recruiting services are out to get everyone who pledges to the Seminoles and drop them down a star ranking.

I believe that star rankings are a good starting point to where a prospect could end up and be potential wise, but it isn't everything.

JAY TIMMONS UPDATE

I know that we were just discussing Chauncey Kennon and the updated On3 ranking that he received. However, Rivals (which has a partnership with On3) also dropped its updated ranking. Cornerback commit Jay Timmons is now considered the 39th-best prospect in their particular ranking.

Timmons is a legacy prospect, as his father (Lawrence) played linebacker for the Seminoles from 2004 to 2006. This is something that the fan base can get behind. The younger Timmons finished with four interceptions during his junior season.

It goes to show the ability to locate and bring in talent by defensive back coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and Evan Cooper. While I am not saying that it is the most difficult position to recruit at Florida State, these assistants make no excuses about shortcomings, and they go to work on the trail to pick more young talent to a room that is loaded with it.
