FSU football: 5 exciting things we learned from upset win over Alabama

It's been a long time since it felt like that in a FSU game

The defense looked like FSU of old

As I mentioned, even though the first offensive possession for Alabama didn’t end well, I could tell that the FSU defense was different. They made Alabama work extremely hard for that touchdown, and it came down to whether they could win enough on the early downs to force Ty Simpson into making some mistakes.

The FSU defense did things we never saw under former coordinator Adam Fuller. The stunts by the defensive line, the twists, and the ability to flow to the ball were a sight to behold.

Earl Little Jr. is everything the coaches said and more. He is violent at the Rover position and will make himself a lot of money if he continues to play at that level.

The linebackers were as advertised and flew to the ball. I know some folks were complaining about the pass rush, but Alabama has one of the better offensive lines, and Ty Simpson can run if he gets enough space, so they couldn’t rush the passer recklessly. They still had Simpson running around for his life for much of the game after that first drive.

The secondary was physical and had Alabama wide receivers hearing footsteps. It was just like the good old days under Mickey Andrews, fast and physical.
