FSU football: 3 reasons Thomas Castellanos commitment makes sense for FSU
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football found its quarterback for 2025 Wednesday night when former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos committed to FSU.
It's a move that has the fan base divided, with many fans hoping FSU would take a different quarterback. FSU only targeted two quarterbacks in the transfer portal last year, and it didn't work out in their favor.
Admittedly, Thomas Castellanos would not have been my first choice from the transfer portal. However, the coaches have more information than I do to make that decision.
Also, Mike Norvell proved me wrong before by going all in on Jordan Travis when he was far from the player he ultimately became.
Ironically, Castellanos is similar to Jordan Travis in some respects, and Jordan Travis is the only quarterback who's been successful for Mike Norvell since arriving at FSU.
Castellanos was the first and only quarterback to visit FSU since the transfer portal opened on Monday. It's clear he was their top guy after leaving Boston College in the middle of the 2024 season.
I think it's fair to question why he didn't stay with the team to finish the season, although he got benched after an injury. At the same time, some Boston College folks believe he caught a raw deal because their new head coach wanted a more pro-style offense.
Nevertheless, I think the coaches did their due diligence and feel comfortable accepting his commitment. Here are three reasons why it makes sense for FSU to take Castellanos.
