BOOM! Former Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos has committed to FSU
Florida State's offense was one of the worst in the country during the 2024 season. That was not expected going into the last offseason because head football coach Mike Norvell was regarded as one of the best playcallers in college football
The Seminoles are trying to find a spark offensively. Even though true freshman quarterback Luke Kromenhoek has entered the transfer portal. They have been rumored to land former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos.
On Wednesday night, Florida State landed the electric signal-caller Thomas Castellanos off of his visit with the Seminoles. This was a quick and easy process for a quarterback that they believed could be a perfect fit for new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn's offensive scheme.
There were Seminole fans who had varying opinions on Florida State adding Castellanos due to his size, his ability as a thrower, getting benched at Boston College, and entering the transfer portal before the season ended.
Overall, I was part of the minority that feel as though the Georgia native could thrive at Florida State. I get that the fan base is tired of dealing with the transfer portal at the quarterback position until the Norvell era with McKenzie Milton, DJ Uiagalelei, and now Thomas Castellanos.
However, it is a win-now mode for head football coach Mike Norvell and his squad after having the 2-10 season. He went with someone that he trusted at offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Malzahn had Castellanos at UCF when he was the head football coach there. This suggests that he is confident in the quarterback's ability to be successful in the offense.
Overall, I think he could be a valuable low-risk-high-reward option if he gets the necessary offensive linemen and playmakers around him.
