Florida State has reached out to former Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos
As most individuals know, the quarterback is one of the more pivotal positions on the football field. With that being said, Florida State's offense, and more specifically, the quarterback position, struggled with consistency.
It started with the experiment of transfer signal-caller DJ Uiagalelei. He was a polarizing pickup for the Seminoles after his stints with Clemson and Oregon State, where he dealt with various failures. However, there was a thought that head football coach Mike Norvell could fix Uiagalelei since he was considered one of the better playcallers in college football.
Unfortunately, Uiagalelei was supposed to bridge the gap between the younger options on the roster, such as redshirt freshman Brock Glenn and true freshman Luke Kromenhoek. But Glenn and Kromenhoek had to split time for the remainder of the year as Uiagalelei suffered a season-ending injury versus SMU.
Kromenhoek finished the year as the starter versus arch-rival Florida. As we all know, Florida State lost the contest by a score of 31-11, where the true freshman completed 15 of his 28 passes for 140 passing yards. He also had 21 rushing attempts for 32 yards.
The performance was promising to a degree, but the ball security was an issue. Fans do not know if Brock Glenn will return to the team in 2025, but we will see how it plays out.
With the hiring of Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator, we wondered if Florida State would grab a transfer portal quarterback. It looks like the Seminoles may have found their guy in Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos.
According to a report from Rivals' Adam Gorney, Castellanos has informed him that schools such as Auburn, Missouri, Miami, and Florida State have reached out to him since he entered the transfer portal.
It is a polarizing individual for Seminole fans since the report came out that Castellanos left the team after he was benched at Boston College and head football coach Bill O'Brien made his comments about his decision to leave.
I don't mind Castellanos because of his dual-threat ability, Malzahn has familiarity with him being at UCF, and it provides stability for the quarterback room so that Kromenhoek and potentially Glenn can develop.
