It has been several days, and the FSU coaching staff continues to negotiate with Mandrell and Darryll Desir. The freshmen defensive linemen announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal. It’s a situation that the Florida State fanbase hoped to avoid because they have the potential to be building blocks for the future.

However, as we’re seeing across college football, most teams have starters entering the transfer portal in search of more money or what they perceive as a better opportunity. The thing is, FSU was aware that the twins, especially Mandrell, probably outperformed their initial contract and took the initiative to provide a better opportunity for their sophomore season.

The players (or their agents who also represent Lawayne McCoy) waited until a few days after the portal opened to make the announcement they intended to enter as a negotiation tactic.

Here’s the thing: yes, they played better than most freshmen defensive linemen, but they are still freshmen who depended on someone like Darrell Jackson Jr. to create opportunities. If they are doing this after their first year, you can bet they will do it again next year. It’s not a good look for two of the young leaders of the team to have their negotiations go on like this.

We noted that these agents appear to be taking advantage of FSU for all they can, as they perceive FSU to be in a vulnerable position. However, FSU fans are tired of it:

FSU is in a lose-lose situation. They don't know how good the brothers actually are yet. They also don't know if they can afford better players in the transfer portal. They also don't know of the ripple effects it could cause if they give in to their demands.

College football isn't college football anymore. It sucks in general, but it really sucks because FSU isn't operating from a position of power.
