FSU baseball ranked among 10 best programs in top 100 programs
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball has had its ups and downs since Mike Martin Sr's near storybook ending in his final season in 2019. FSU improbably reached the College World Series that year, but it was clear the program seemed to be sliding, and the hope was Mike Martin Jr. would help the program recapture its reputation as one of the top programs. Some folks were against the hire, citing nepotism, and ultimately, Martin Jr. failed to live up to expectations. FSU AD Michael Alford fired him after the 2022 season, where FSU lost in the regionals as a No. 3 season. It was the second consecutive year FSU failed to get past the regionals, and the second consecutive season FSU failed to reach 40 wins(something Mike Martin Sr. had done for 40+ years).
Enter Link Jarrett, former FSU infielder and roommate of Mike Martin Jr. Link Jarrett got hired after leading Notre Dame to the College World Series in 2022. He didn't arrive in Tallahassee until late that summer and didn't have much time to address many of the roster needs. The holes on the roster were evident, and FSU ace pitcher Wyatt Crowell's season-ending injury after only five games didn't help. FSU missed the postseason for the first time in over 40 seasons. It didn't take Jarrett long to fix things. FSU won its first 19 games en route to a 49-17 record, a regional and Super Regional, and its first College World Series since 2019.
Even though FSU hasn't been at its peak for the past five years, it's still capable of doing big things, and Link Jarrett is a proven winner. The quick turnaround in Tallahassee and program potential is why it'll always be among the top programs nationally.
