FSU baseball (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season as the No. 9 Auburn Tigers came from behind to win 8-5. FSU scored four runs in the first inning, but the bats went silent over the rest of the game.

FSU starting pitcher Bryson Moore had a much better outing than last week, going 4.1 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts.

He left the game with lead, but the FSU bullpen faltered and couldn’t hold it against an Auburn team that hadn’t been swinging the bats that well.

The FSU offense had seven hits, struckout 13 times against only two walks. Florida State fans will likely be down after the loss agaisnt a top 10 opponent. However, it’s better to look at this weekend like a three-game conference series, even though it’s agaisnt three different teams.

If FSU can scratch out a win against Nebraska on Sunday, it’ll be a successful weekend for the Noles. Nebraska has lost back-to-back games against ACC opponents Stanford and Louisville before playing Kansas State on Saturday night.

The biggest thing for FSU is finding out if starting pitcher Trey Beard will make his FSU debut after missing his start last week with an illness. If so, it’ll provide a better indicator of what to expect in a weekend series. Bryson Moore having a solid start on Saturday against a quality opponent was a good sign. However, FSU will need to figure out what it has in its bullpen and find some consistent offense when facing quality arms.

The Nebraska game will start at 3:30 p.m. and will air on FloSports.
