A lot to like about his game

Florida State doesn’t have a quarterback committed for the 2027 recruiting cycle, but the coaches continue to evaluate potential targets. One guy who visited FSU earlier this spring recently decommitted from Kentucky and will take a second visit to FSU later this month.

That player is three-star quarterback DJ Hunter from Buford High School in Georgia. That’s the top high school in the Peach State. The 6’1” and 197-pound prospect is a dual-threat quarterback who could fit Mike Norvell’s offense like a glove. He’s run a verified 4.54 forty-yard dash and can sling the rock. His physical attributes are excellent, and he likely still has time to keep physically maturing:

Hunter is a guy who could be a steal if the Noles decided to go all in

I know it’s cliché to compare every dual-threat quarterback with interest in FSU to Jordan Travis, but that’s the only quarterback that’s had great success in Mike Norvell’s offense.

Hunter backed off from his Kentucky pledge after Mark Stoops was no longer the head coach after the 2025 season.

FSU was the first school he visited this spring, and it will be the first unofficial visit he takes in March.

Hunter is an intriguing prospect who continues to gain momentum as he recruitment goes along. He's not afraid to compete, as noted by the number of camps he's attended. Like most high school quarterbacks, he has some areas to refine, like throwing with anticipation and ball placement.

However, I could see him giving opposing offenses fits in the right system. I'll be keeping an eye on this recruitment after his visit later this month. A high school like Buford is one you want to create a pipeline from if possible.
