Florida State has put itself in a good position with four-star quarterback Israel Abrams. The blue-chip prospect from the Chicagoland area has an official visit to Tallahassee scheduled for June 12. Abrams also has visits scheduled to Kentucky, Purdue and Auburn, but another program is coming in hot.
Abrams confirmed that Miami extended an offer earlier this week and the Hurricanes' addition to the list should turn up the heat in terms of how aggressive Mike Norvell and the FSU staff have to be to land a pledge and get a quarterback into the class.
Praise the Lord!!! Abrams has only set the four official visits thus far, but he can add to that list and if Miami is potentially on the docket, it ups the ante for FSU's staff and makes this recruitment much more personal.
FSU needs to go all-in for QB Israel Abrams
Norvell has to win some recruiting battles for the 2027 recruiting cycle. He is already dealing with the perception that he can't recruit at an elite level and that FSU is not on Miami's level as a program right now. The success that the Hurricanes have had over the past two seasons in the face of the Seminoles' struggles makes the narrative even more difficult to fight.
Beating out several schools for Abrams is a nice win, but beating out Miami for a coveted target is something that Norvell can use to build on for the rest of the summer. The questions about his job security won't go away with one elite recruit or even an elite recruiting class, but it reassures the fans that Norvell's talk about elite expectations and winning trophies, isn't just the mindless quacks of a lame-duck coach. They're the words of a guy that's ready to fight for his reputation and that of FSU football.
It's a battle that Norvell needs to win.
