Florida State baseball opened a can on the Mercer Bears in a 22-5 win on Wednesday night to improve its record to 10-2. The Noles scored 13 runs in the bottom of the second inning after falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, and proceeded to score four runs in the bottom of the fourth and five runs in the bottom of the fifth to score 22 runs total.
A young player who’s hit his way into the lineup early in the season is Noah Sheffield, the son of former major league player, Gary Sheffield. The latter is arguably an MLB Hall of Famer with an iconic swing from the right side. His son mimics the swing nearly identically and entered Wednesday’s game batting .316.
He had five of his 12 hits go for doubles, but fans have been eagerly waiting for him to leave the yard, just as his dad did over 500 times in the major leagues. That magical moment finally came in the bottom of the fourth inning for a three-run home run:

There's a reason I said I still believed in this FSU lineup and they proved me right for at least one night
Sheffield went 1-3 with four RBI. The other RBI came via a sacrifice fly. The FSU offense has been struggling over the past few weeks, with way too many strikeouts and poor quality at-bats.
FSU pounded out 13 hits, four batters hit by a pitch, and seven walks against four walks. John Stuetzer continues to swing a hot bat over the past few games. He went 2-5 with three RBI. Will Bavaro made his FSU debut and hit a home run in his first college at-bat, and finishing with two hits and three RBI.
It was good to see the offense show up after the recent struggles. Here's to hoping they can continue raking like this over the weekend against Northern Kentucky in a three-game series.
