Former high priced FSU transfer QB target doesn't look great at his spring practice

Probably dodged a bullet there

When Florida State was on the market for a transfer quarterback after the 2025 season, it had a few targets to take visits to campus. They had UNLV’s Anthony Colandra, Auburn’s Ashton Daniels, and Florida’s DJ Lagway all on campus within a couple of days of one another.

The Noles ultimately settled on Ashton Daniels as their choice, but the staff’s decision to bring in DJ Lagway had a huge reaction from the fan base. Lagway was a starter with the rival Florida Gators and a former five-star recruit who had been a mixed bag over the first two years. He was often injured and out of shape, plus he came with a huge price tag.

Some fans wanted him at FSU, citing his talent, but the coaching staff ultimately passed and took Daniels, who has been performing well, according to Mike Norvell. It’s early in spring camp, but from the looks of it, they made the right choice. Here’s what Lagway looks like at Baylor’s spring practice:

The high price tag, inaccuracy, and injury history were always a concern for me. I wasn't too upset when the staff didn't heavily pursue.

It’s day one, according to this account, but it’s not a good look. The ball placement is bad, and the ducks quacking on those throws screams he has either been hurt or not working out much since he arrived at Baylor. The reports from Florida were that he isn’t a  good teammate or leader, so it looks like FSU may have dodged a bullet for the price point it would have cost.

FSU won't face Baylor, so they won't have to face Lagway again unless they met in a bowl game.
