Sorry Hurricane fans, it's not happening.

If there was any reason to think Lawayne McCoy was looking around (and there wasn't), he shut it down quickly on his social media account today.

McCoy, a sophomore from Miami, took a picture with his friend, Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney, after Saturday's game and while Toney did the "U" sign with his hands, McCoy threw up the three fingers to signal "305", the area code for Miami-Dade County. Naturally, someone wanted to believe this was a cry for help and a desire to transfer to Miami, but McCoy said that wasn't the case at all.

McCoy is having a fairly decent season and on this week's depth chart he jumped Jayvan Boggs as the starter in the '5WR' position. Against the Hurricanes, McCoy finished with three catches for 39 yards and a touchdown. It's safe to assume that, right now, McCoy has established himself as FSU's most reliable receiver, opposite of Duce Robinson.

Maybe it's a good thing that Hurricane fans are concerned about McCoy while enjoying what could potentially be Miami's best season in two decades. Clearly, they also see that McCoy has some significant upside and could be a top receiver in the conference next year assuming he has a better passing quarterback to work with. If that's the case, I can't blame them for hoping he would transfer, but seriously stop begging kids on Twitter/X, it's embarrassing.

The 305 to 850 connection will never die

What's made the FSU-Miami rivalry so great over the years is the number of players from Miami that have gone to FSU to battle the 'Canes. That's what really brings the "backyard brawl" element to the rivalry. With Florida, it's more of a legitimate dislike for everything the Gators stand for. With Miami, it's kind of like racing your loudmouth cousins at the cook out and proving you're the fastest.

So here's hoping McCoy goes the way of Dalvin Cook and becomes the next 'Cane killer' and he continues to represent the best of the Miami kids that became Seminoles.
