Florida State men's basketball program has built a great foundation under head coach Luke Loucks. It has not been pretty in some cases, early on, specifically the blowout loss to North Carolina State.
Coach Loucks wanted to build an offensive identity to have a fast pace and shoot plenty of perimeter shots. This was an exciting offense that the Seminole fan base could get behind. However, there were plenty of times when Florida State was ice-cold from the field, which cost them some losses.
The Seminoles knew that they were in a dangerous territory when they took on a 9-16 Boston College team (2-10 in conference) at home after Florida State's dominant second-half road victory over Virginia Tech.
Florida State basketball gets a much-needed victory to get to a .500 overall record
Head coach Luke Loucks knew that this could be a trap game for his squad against the Eagles because records get thrown out the window when Boston College has been competitive against most of the teams that it has played this season.
The Seminoles came out sluggish, where they were down by a score of 34-20 with 6:20 left to go in the first half. The fans in the Tucker Center didn't want to see Florida State fall back into its old habits. However, Florida State went on a run in the second half after trailing Boston College for over 30 minutes and ended up winning by a score of 80-72.
Florida State has had its share of close games this season, and guard Robert McCray IV is no stranger to the brightest moments. He finished the game with 27 points, six rebounds, and five assists (via ESPN Stats and Information).
The Seminoles struggled with their perimeter defense in the first half, where they allowed Boston College to make seven three-pointers. However, their defense did just enough to contain guard Fred Payne, who had 22 points.
Florida State now has a 13-13 overall record (6-7 in conference). The Seminoles have won six out of their last eight games. They will have a tough challenge on Saturday at 12 PM EST on the CW Network as they take on the 20-6 Clemson Tigers.
