Florida State basketball has had its fair share of ups and downs during the first season of the Luke Loucks era. The former Seminole wanted his team's identity to be able to push the pace and make perimeter shots.

However, it looked as though, early on, Florida State did not have the players on the roster to fit his scheme in 2026. The encouraging part is that the squad keeps digging and clawing for consistency. The blowout North Carolina State loss was embarrassing, but a switch flipped in that moment where the Seminoles knew that they eventually had to put some wins together.

Florida State has one of the nation's top recruiting classes, so next year could bring so much excitement in Tallahassee if they stick to their pledges. With that said, Florida State had to worry about his stretch of games now, and it all starts with going on the road to Virginia Tech.

Florida State got a much-needed victory on the road against the Hokies

The Hokies had a 17-8 overall record heading into the contest, where they are on the bubble and need more quality wins after defeating Clemson recently.

The Seminoles are fresh off a heartbreaking 61-58 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers at home, where they were leading for a majority of the game. They were 4-2 in their last six games, so the momentum was on their side.

Florida State went down by a score of 42-39 at halftime, and many individuals thought that the Seminoles could pack it in, being on the road. However, they applied pressure on the Hokies and secured a 92-69 victory, outscoring them 53-27 in the second half.

The Seminoles were led by guard Martin Somerville, who had had 23 points, six assists, and four rebounds. This came after Somerville had 0 points in 18 minutes against the Virginia Cavaliers in the last game (according to ESPN Stats and Information). It also cannot go unnoticed how important forward Chauncey Wiggins has been for the squad as well, where he recorded 19 points.

The Seminoles are currently sitting with a 12-13 overall record (5-7 in conference) and will play struggling Boston College in the Tucker Center on Tuesday, February 17th at 6:00 PM EST on the ACC Network.
