Florida State made a bit of positive noise as the transfer portal officially closed on Friday. FSU retained three defensive players they had to have, added two linebackers, and added a JUCO quarterback who’s impressed some Nole legends with his film.

I’m still grading what Florida State did in the transfer portal, but overall, they met most of their needs. Most of the players didn’t come from heralded programs, but we’ve seen that doesn’t matter when it comes to the transfer portal.

Some of FSU’s best transfer portal additions have come from smaller schools, while some players from places like Alabama, LSU, and Tennessee have been a waste of resources.

I like to say this. If you can play, you can play, no matter the school. Florida State could still use some help, mostly in the trenches, and there could be another opportunity to add some difference-makers from the transfer portal after the National Championship game between Indiana and Miami on Monday night.

There will be a 10-day window for players who wish to enter the portal once that game concludes, and FSU should be all hands on deck for any players, whether they are trench players or not, who can improve the roster.

FSU added 20 portal players and two JUCO players, and lost 32. A lot of schools have already spent a ton of money and added several players. I’d like to think FSU was smart enough to hold a few dollars for 1-2 guys at positions of need. A defensive tackle or LB/EDGE type guy with production would improve this roster drastically.
