Florida State has numerous great players who love to give their opinion anytime a microphone is in front of them or on social media. One former FSU great has always been on the quiet side and modest, even after his playing career concluded.
Legendary FSU quarterback and point guard, Charlie Ward, doesn’t post on social media too much. He has fewer than 3,800 posts on X since joining almost 14 years ago. So when he posts about something or someone, it’s time to take notice.
That’s the case with the newest FSU quarterback commit, Malachi Marshall. The JUCO Offensive Player of the Year has an outstanding highlight tape that doesn’t take long to see he’s a talented individual. A two-minute video impressed Charlie Ward so much that he had to post on X about it:
Dude is dropping dimes all over the field! https://t.co/41EtHQA63d

Ward isn’t lying. A couple of those are NFL-type throws, and it’s like he’s a right-handed Michael Vick the way he just flicks his wrist, and the ball jumps out of his hand. He’s making quick decisions and getting rid of the ball, which I like.
There is a downside to some of these throws, and it’s that Marshall isn’t setting his feet to make the throw on all of these. It’s great he can do it, but it’s not something I’d want him doing unless he had to because of pressure up the middle. He can get away with it at the JUCO level, but I’m not sure that’s the case against good Power Four teams. A prime example is that the final throw in the clip would have been a walk-in touchdown with a better throw.
This is something Thomas Castellanos struggled with, and it affected his accuracy. Here’s to hoping it’s something he’s working on before arriving this summer. If he learns to set his feet and drive the ball? The sky is the limit with good decision-making.
