Florida State gets boost as four-star DB Ta'Shawn Poole skips Miami official visit

This is great news for a big-time recruiting target for the Seminoles.

Florida State football's coaching staff looks to have a productive recruiting weekend, as it hosted six prospects with four-star defensive back Ta'Shawn Poole, four-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune, four-star offensive lineman DaJohn Yarborough, three-star wide receiver Majay Thompson, three-star defensive lineman Jaxon Holly, and three-star tight end Colton Johnson.

The talk of Sunday was the commitment from three-star defensive end Jaxon Holly from Roswell, Georgia. This is now the Seminoles' third defensive lineman in the class, and they only look to grow that group even more over the next couple of weeks.

The rich should get richer, as Florida State has received predictions in favor of defensive linemen such as four-star Sam LeJeune. This is good news for the crowd that hates the Seminoles always getting three-stars with heart. LeJeune is a top-150 prospect and has been someone that the program has been on forever, and was even his first-ever offer.

His excitement with him in the car during the official visit with head coach Mike Norvell should tell the entire story.

Four-star defensive back Ta'Shawn Poole is down to Florida State and Tennessee after cancelling his Miami official visit

Florida State fans should be excited about the potential of getting a commitment from Sam LeJeune, but the Seminoles need plenty more highly-touted prospects in their class. With that said, four-star defensive back Ta'Shawn Poole was the highest-ranked recruit who visited Florida State over the weekend.

Poole was coming into the weekend deciding between Florida State and Tennessee, but the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes were looming in the distance with a scheduled official visit the next weekend. Head coach Mario Cristobal has been a thorn in the Seminoles' side lately. He grabbed four-star running back prospect Ty Keys (Sam LeJeune's high school teammate) earlier this year. Keys was projected to commit to the Seminoles, but Miami picked him up instead.

With that said, this shouldn't be an overreaction because Florida State now has four-star Jayden Miles in the fold, and three-star Marquis Fennell could potentially join the Seminoles on June 25th. Life is good, and Keys is a thing of the past, but Cristobal wants to take every opportunity to undermine Florida State's success.

With that said, Poole announced after his official visit with the Seminoles that he will no longer be officially visiting Miami next weekend. This was massive for Florida State since they need defensive back help, with four-star Mekhi Williams de-committing for Wisconsin and Dayon Cooper de-committing today (potentially for Tennessee).

Cooper is likely heading to Knoxville, and Poole was thought to be deciding between Florida State and Tennessee. The Seminoles cannot afford to lose the top-100 prospect to the Volunteers. The Georgia native could really elevate Florida State's 2027 recruiting class to the next level before fall camp starts. Poole is expected to decide in July, but Florida State hopes that the visit was enough for him to choose the good guys.

All of this won't happen on the recruiting front if the Seminoles don't do well on the gridiron in the 2026 season. They need to ensure that they have success this year for recruits to sign in December.
