Florida State is about to be in the thick of official visits this summer, and they only have seven commitments in their 2027 class. They rank outside of the top-30 after three-star quarterback Logan Flaherty pledged to the program, but fans still complain about Florida State being “three-star U” right now.
The biggest hurdle that the Seminoles will have to face is the job security of head coach Mike Norvell after his squad has a combined seven wins in two years. Some recruits are probably thinking, if they commit to Florida State, will Mike Norvell be the coach when I sign?
To make matters worse, Florida State didn’t even generate a top-ten recruiting class when they were 10-3 in 2022 and 13-1 in 2023. So, how much does it actually mean to generate wins on the field?
Florida State finally offered Class of 2028 four-star defensive back Cyion Smith
Florida State is clearly focused on 2027 prospects with official visits right around the corner. Still, the Seminoles made an offer to a local prospect from Blountstown, Florida, in four-star defensive back Cyion Smith from the 2028 cycle. It was about time that they offered Smith.

This offer from the Seminoles should have come a long time ago. Florida State waited so long to make the offer that the defensive back had already committed to Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs were an awkward fit for Smith, as he had pledged there for seven months before de-committing earlier this month. To be honest, he should be in Florida State's recruiting class right now.
Florida State is his dream school, and he has visited the Seminoles twice this spring. Smith clearly loves Florida State because he has been on campus plenty of times for games and camps. There was a time when the Seminoles got a commitment from former Class of 2024 four-star safety Jordan Pride from Blountstown, Florida, but he flipped his commitment to Texas A&M and is now at Southern Miss.
The Seminoles are late to the party, but I guess it is better late than never.
