Florida State's recruiting classes have taken a hit over the last couple of years due to the Seminoles' lack of consistency on the gridiron. However, head coach Mike Norvell is under a ton of pressure to succeed in 2026 with the administration retaining him for this season.
Norvell will be tasked with the responsibility of play-calling once again after former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn unexpectedly retired in the offseason. This shouldn't be a shock that Norvell will be calling plays, as he has done it for the majority of his coaching career. This will allow him to have the chance to ensure that his time in Tallahassee is extended.
Nonetheless, the Seminoles have to get the quarterback situation right. Florida State named former Stanford and Auburn transfer Ashton Daniels the starter, but the fan base has expressed its desire to see if redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry and/or JUCO option Malachi Marshall can work to get the gig.

Florida State grabs the talented quarterback Logan Flaherty for its 2027 recruiting class
This has to make it difficult for high school quarterback prospects to want to come to Florida State because it seems like the coaching staff favors transfers over recruits. Let's look at the last three offseasons, where the Seminoles have named transfers DJ Uiagalelei, Thomas Castellanos, and now Ashton Daniels the starter.
There is plenty of talent in the room with Kevin Sperry, Malachi Marshall, and Jaden O'Neal (who is out with an injury). However, they turned to Daniels before they could potentially make it a battle in the summer.
Florida State lost out on four-star Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV from Vero Beach, Florida, as he selected Notre Dame over the Seminoles. This was a bummer for the fan base as Monds IV was considered a top target for Florida State. However, a first-time visit to the Fighting Irish sealed the deal for him.
The Seminoles turned their attention to another quarterback, as three-star Logan Flaherty from Port Charlotte, Florida, became a serious option after de-committing from UCF. Flaherty has visited Florida State numerous times and has a great relationship, so it only made sense for the Seminoles to potentially grab him.
Florida State was able to get Flaherty to say "yes" to the program, as he committed to the Seminoles, and Mike Norvell has his quarterback of the future. The fan base might worry about the three-star ranking and how Norvell is always getting three-star prospects, but Flaherty is one of those recruits that doesn't attend the camp settings, which largely impacts rankings.
The talented quarterback recorded 2,636 passing yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions through the air, while also rushing for 595 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground during his junior year of high school.
While it might not be the fan base's first choice, Flaherty is a prospect that could blossom into a low four-star prospect if he has a productive senior season.
