Florida State football recruiting weekend looks to be a win according to tea leaves

An offical weekend with no negative news and quite a few positives

Florida State football coaches needed to knock this weekend of official visitors out of the ballpark to start making up some serious ground in its 2027 recruiting class. It will need to do the same thing next weekend, as several of their top remaining targets are set to descend on Tallahassee.

It sounds like they nailed the first part of that equation. FSU had 10 players taking official visits(three committed players), including quarterback commit Logan Flaherty. One of the priorities of the weekend was securing linebacker commit Gregory Batson, and it seems like he enjoyed himself, calling Tallahassee home.

FSU surprised many by flipping Jernard Albright from South Carolina this weekend. He’s Florida State’s highest-ranked commit in the composite rankings (No. 169 nationally). Florida State made a great impression on three-star defensive lineman Jason Lewis.

FSU has been the favorite to land Lewis for a bit, and it wouldn’t surprise to see a commitment from him to Florida State at some point. He mentioned FSU was on top heading out of the weekend. Another priority was allowing Logan Flaherty the opportunity to build a relationship with four-star wide receiver Sean Green.

Florida State fans seem apathetic about everything lately, and for good reason. We'll see if the next few weeks can build any positive vibes with the fanbase.

Green is from Georgia, and the Georgia Bulldogs hosted him on an official visit last week. Green left FSU without committing or canceling his upcoming official visit with Virginia next week. The good news is he didn’t commit to Georgia after his official visit and gave Florida State a chance. Virginia has a ton of wide receivers on their roster, and it’s Virginia, unless they just throw a ton of money at him.

The latter is possible because we don’t know how teams view certain players. If he’s one of their main targets, who knows? There were some other guys who took official visits that Florida State could probably take if they wanted, but I wouldn’t consider them top priorities with where the recruiting board is.

All in all, the tea leaves seem to show Florida State trending in a positive direction with most of the players they’d want who took official visits this past weekend. As mentioned, they need to hit next week out of the park, and the following week (June 19th). Florida State doesn’t have a ton of top-tier targets left on its board, but it can make some noise if it can get the majority of those guys remaining.

The other part of the equation is keeping those players once they commit after the season starts. If they have a bad start to the season, that’s when everything can hit the fan (again).
